Czech National Team defenseman Jana Fialová has accepted an invitation to attend the prestigious Banff Hockey Academy located in Alberta, Canada.
Fialová, age 17 has been known as a solid defender with a blistering shot for the Czech 18 and Senior National Teams for the past three years. Last season she attended Rice Memorial High School in Burlington Vermont, where she competed for both the Rice Memorial high school team in the Vermont stars.
“This was a difficult decision especially with the opportunity coming so close to the school year, but I’m very excited for the new challenges that lay ahead, said Fialová. “The people at Rice were good to me and it’s always hard to say goodbye—there so many people in Vermont that I will never be able to thank enough for the wonderful things they did for me” said the Kladno native.
Banff hockey Academy has been in operation for the past 17 years, but this will be their first season with the women’s program. With the hiring of former Division I standout goaltender, Kendall Newell as head coach and input from former NHL standout, Garry Unger the team is sure to continue with the same tradition of excellence that has made Banff one of the premiere hockey academies in the world.
